Read The Play

Read the Play (RTP) is a program designed to raise mental health awareness in junior sports clubs and the importance of seeking help early. Designated representatives, or mentors, attend nine hours of training designed to increase knowledge of mental illness, improve attitudes towards mental health issues and provide information regarding relevant support services.

Training topics include depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, eating disorders suicide, psychosis, help seeking, local/statewide/national services, role of the mentor and confidentiality.

Program objectives are:

  • To increase knowledge and awareness of mental illness, alcohol and other drugs within junior sports clubs.
  • To increase knowledge about local support services.
  • To improve attitudes toward mental health problems and help seeking.
  • To increase confidence and skills in responding to young people with mental health problems.
  • To increase confidence and skills in guiding young people to support services.
