Aspire has a long history in being involved in health promotion. It stems from early research that showed that a service in a rural environment must have a role in changing community attitudes, and educating service providers to be effective.
Early programs that are still in operation involved going into schools using the Mental Illness Education Australia program. (Nationally accredited program) Part of this program involved providing information to year nine and ten students, and to have a person with mental illness tell their story. This latter part was always the most successful, and was always a great experience for those who provide their story.

It became clear to us that the process of engaging the community, which is at the heart of health promotion, is also at the heart of rehabilitation. The programs fit together very well, and support and inform each other.
Please refer to the Health Promotion pages on the Victorian Pages, and the Tasmanian pages, for activities that are occurring near you.
